The Mendoza Tango Quartet
The Mendoza Tango Quartet has quickly gained a reputation as one of Australia’s leading tango bands. Proclaimed as Australia’s “one of the most danceable tango band”, the ensemble has been invited to perform at many of Australia’s tango festivals and events including the Australian Tango Festival, Byron Bay Tango Festival, Maleny Tango Festival and BASH – Buenos Aires in the Southern Highlands. Outside of the tango dance scene, the Mendoza Tango Quartet has also performed at the Woodford Folk Festival and EMSLA Festival of Fine Art and Music (Coffs Harbour) to great acclaim and successfully toured VIC, NSW and ACT in December 2017. In 2018, the ensemble was awarded a PPCA Grant to attend Tango for Musicians at Reed College in Portland (OR), USA, where they were coached by Ignacio Varchausky (creator/artistic director of Orquesta Escuela de Tango Emilio Balcarce and double bassist/founder of Orquesta El Arranque). The Mendoza Tango Quartet is excited to have been invited to return to BASH in 2018 and look forward to sharing the skills they learnt from the Argentinian maestros.
